UAE Reports New Wave of Missile Attacks Amid Escalating Gulf Tensions

(MENAFN) The United Arab Emirates said it intercepted a fourth wave of missiles and drones launched from Iran on Monday evening, marking the latest escalation in regional tensions, according to official statements.

The UAE Defense Ministry reported that its air defense systems engaged incoming ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and unmanned aerial vehicles targeting Emirati territory. It added that loud explosions heard in various parts of the country were the result of interception operations carried out by air defense units.

Authorities said there were no immediate reports of deaths or significant structural damage following the attacks.

Earlier the same day, a fire broke out at the Fujairah Oil Industry Zone, an important energy facility on the UAE’s eastern coast, after it was struck by a drone reportedly launched from Iran. Local officials in Fujairah said three Indian nationals sustained moderate injuries and were taken to hospital for treatment.

The developments come amid a broader escalation of regional tensions that intensified after US and Israeli strikes on Iran in late February. Those events triggered retaliatory actions across multiple fronts, including against US allies in the Gulf, and contributed to heightened instability in key maritime corridors.

A ceasefire was previously established in early April through regional mediation efforts, but subsequent negotiations failed to produce a lasting agreement. The truce was later extended without a defined timeline, according to reports.

In parallel, maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz has remained under pressure, with additional military and naval measures reported in the area, further adding to regional instability.
