Trump Reaffirms US Stance Against Iranian Nuclear Capability
(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump reiterated on Monday that the United States will not allow Iran to obtain a nuclear weapon, according to remarks made at a White House small business summit.
He stated that preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear capabilities remains a firm US policy position, emphasizing national security concerns in relation to ongoing regional instability.
The comments came alongside reports of increased US naval activity in the Gulf, where Central Command said guided-missile destroyers are operating after passing through the Strait of Hormuz as part of a mission described as “Project Freedom,” aimed at securing commercial maritime traffic.
Trump also linked current US military actions in the region to broader strategic goals, arguing that such measures are intended to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons capability. He further claimed that recent US operations, including actions against Iranian naval assets, were necessary steps in that direction.
He also suggested that economic impacts, including high fuel prices, would ease once tensions in the region subside.
Earlier in the day, he referred to US military operations against Iranian small boats, describing them as part of broader efforts to counter perceived threats in the area.
The statement comes amid continued escalation in the region following earlier military exchanges involving the US, Israel, and Iran, which have led to retaliatory actions and heightened instability in key maritime corridors such as the Strait of Hormuz, according to reports.
