Rockets Fired from Iraq Strike Syrian Army Base in Hasakah

(MENAFN) The Syrian Army reported Monday evening that one of its bases in Hasakah province, in the country’s northeast, was struck by five rockets fired from neighboring Iraq, according to military sources.

A military operations statement cited that the base near Al-Ya’rubiyah, in rural Hasakah, came under attack from rockets launched near the village of Tal al-Hawa, approximately 20 kilometers (12.4 miles) inside Iraqi territory.

The army indicated that it had coordinated with Iraqi authorities, who confirmed that a search of the area is underway to identify those responsible for the assault.

The Syrian Army emphasized that it remains fully alert and is committed to defending Syrian territory and “respond to any aggression.”

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, and Baghdad had not issued any comment as of 2020 GMT.
