Aerospace to increase aircraft production capacity by five to six times
Speaking recently, Haluk Bayraktar, who serves as chairman of Piaggio Aerospace and general manager of Baykar, emphasized the historical importance of the Italian firm, noting that its long-standing role in aviation represents a significant industrial legacy. He stated: "This is a very important legacy for Baykar." He further highlighted the strategic benefits of the acquisition, adding: "Combining our technologies with Piaggio offered a unique advantage and potential to bring together the strengths of Türkiye and Italy."
Piaggio currently operates two main production sites—one focused on assembling the P180 light transport aircraft, and another dedicated to engine manufacturing and engine maintenance services. Bayraktar described the aircraft as highly distinctive, stressing both its performance and design. He said: "With all the capabilities and expertise, it has a very unique aircraft. It's the world's fastest turboprop aircraft and has a unique design." Looking ahead, he expressed optimism about the company’s direction, remarking: "When Piaggio's facilities, capabilities, talents, heritage, and brand name are combined with Baykar's new innovations in the field of UAVs, we see a bright future."
According to Bayraktar, production of the P180 has been limited in recent years, but Baykar intends to reverse this trend by revitalizing operations. While current output stands at only a handful of aircraft annually, plans are in place to substantially increase manufacturing volumes starting next year.
He explained that annual production of the P180 Avanti is expected to rise to between 25 and 30 units, citing existing infrastructure, manufacturing systems, and supply networks as sufficient to support the expansion. Reinforcing Baykar’s long-term commitment, he added: "As Baykar, we are committed to new investments, new updates, and making this aircraft attractive again."
