WhatsApp tests tools to boost parental oversight
Under the proposed setup, younger users could have accounts with limited capabilities, giving parents the power to determine who can message or call their child. By default, these secondary accounts would only allow communication with existing contacts.
“This default configuration helps reduce the risk of unsolicited contact and potentially harmful communication, as it prevents unknown users from reaching the child directly,” the reports said.
In addition, parents would have the ability to monitor and adjust key privacy settings and receive notifications about account or chat activity, while still ensuring that the content of messages and calls remains private.
“This will establish the relationship between the two profiles while preserving the privacy of messages and calls,” it was added.
According to the reports, these parental control features are currently in testing and are expected to be included in a future WhatsApp update.
