Three Countries Call for UN-Backed Resolution to Yemen Crisis

(MENAFN) Saudi Arabia, Iran, and China on Tuesday urged a far-reaching, UN-led political resolution to the conflict in Yemen, reiterating their aligned backing for an internationally endorsed framework to bring an end to the strife in the Arab nation.

Their appeal was issued during the third session of the Saudi-Chinese-Iranian trilateral committee held in Tehran to monitor progress on the Beijing Agreement, as stated by a news agency.

The gathering was presided over by Majid Takht-Ravanchi, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs; Waleed bin Abdulkarim Al-Khuraiji, Saudi Arabia’s Deputy Foreign Minister; and Miao Deyu, China’s Vice Foreign Minister.

The Beijing Agreement — concluded on March 10, 2023 — reestablished diplomatic ties between Saudi Arabia and Iran after negotiations facilitated by China, ultimately closing a diplomatic rift that had endured since 2016.

Throughout the meeting, the Saudi and Iranian delegations underlined their “commitment to implementing the Beijing Agreement in all its provisions, and to continuing their efforts to strengthen good-neighborly relations between the two countries through adherence to the UN Charter, the Charter of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and international law, including respect for the sovereignty, territorial integrity, independence and security of both states.”

The three nations further appealed for “an immediate halt to Israeli aggression in Palestine, Lebanon and Syria, and condemned acts of aggression and violations of the territorial integrity of the Islamic Republic of Iran.”

According to the news agency, the parties likewise “reaffirmed their support for a comprehensive political solution in Yemen that aligns with internationally recognized principles under UN auspices.”
